Another Bliss (2018)

Bliss, the default computer wallpaper of Microsoft’s Windows XP operating system, reflects humanity’s yearning for a peaceful land with no tension. In Another Bliss, this image is manipulated in order to create a place that is evocative yet still unfamiliar: snow-covered mountains, waterfalls, and peach blossom trees are merged onto the original Bliss, transforming it into the playground for more than forty cartoon animals from our childhood. As these childhood friends now exist mostly as GIFs on social media, the project aims to bring back characters from our memories through a two-minute video on loop.

The video is played on a monitor surrounded by growing wheatgrass, that blocks part of the view into this imagined landscape. Viewers move the wheatgrass aside to take a better view, as if they are peering through a covered window, a shrouded fantasy. Winnie the Pooh swings back and forth on a tree, Totoro rambles around the lawn, and Pikachu falls asleep on the snow-covered mountain, while birds chirp in the background.

Another Bliss is a digital dream, a playground from our past, and a reminiscence of old friends.
